1933. Captain Fielding-Johnson and Mrs Noel Fielding-Johnson. Photo taken in the farmyard at the Manor. They bought the Manor Farm from the CWS in 1930 and soon made great improvements by building another wing onto the house and bringing the farm yards and buildings up to date. He served in both wars, as observer and pilot he was awarded the MC and Bar during World War I. Then in the 2nd he won the DFC at the age of 50, when he was Wing Commander. He was a keen polo player and kept and reared ponies at "the Alley". During the war, Mrs Fielding-Johnson carried on farming, keeping the Eff-Jay herd of dairy shorthorns going. When the Captain died in 1953, Mrs Fielding-Johnson carried on the farm until 1963. During their time at the Manor, they brought new life to the village with much needed employment and help in all other activities.
